High-quality teachers make high-quality schools.
For PD to be effective, it needs to be focused. We want to set out a few objectives at the start and stick with them to they are done properly. No flavor-of-the-month changes in direction. For our beginning, we want to focus on:
SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol)
Restorative Practices
Social Justice Standards from Learning for Justice
Schools need leaders, but the culture of the school needs be purposefully collaborative as well. If a choice impacts what happens in the world teachers, then teachers need to be part of the decision-making process in a meaningful way. To that end, the Skylight School for Justice will:
Transition to a teacher-majority school board by the end of the 2nd year of operation.
Apply the Turning Points model that creates a school culture based on collaboration and shared leadership, redefining the role of teachers and principals for more collaborative decision making.
Teaching is an extremely difficult and demanding job, compensation needs to reward that effort. Our plan:
Wages that are on par with nearby districts.
Decent insurance.
Student loan payment contribution.
